Solving British Teen Pregnancy Problem July 16, 2008

Heard about this absurdity – British government has urged school kids to try oral sex in order to cut teen pregnancies! Have they gone crazy or what? Do they think it is a novel idea and a creative means to contain a moral dilemma. Read more here. SIFY, Daily Mail, Sun

This advice is a part of Ten Commandments for young people released by chief medical officer Sir Liam Donaldson. He has suggested that teens should limit their sexual contact to touching, fondling and pleasuring each other. Crazy idea indeed. How can anyone stop at that point, without going all the way!

Over 3,000 girls under 16 gave birth in England and Wales in 2006 and 4,700 had an abortion. Under 14 abortions soard 20% last year. The abortion rate was highest for 19-year-olds at 36 per 1,000 girls. Terminations using a pill rather than surgery made up 35 per cent of the total in 2007, compared with 30 per cent in 2006.

This ‘stop-short’ approach is pushing the boundaries and deepening sexual promiscuity among teens. This will not only contain teen pregnancies but cause explosive growth in coming years. It is sure to backfire as many other morally liberal sex-ed stratagies have done before.

In few weeks, I am headed to London to speak at a youth conference there and wanted to see what is going on among youth these days. This was the first news that came across. Disturbing indeed. Would love to hear your comments.

Teen Pregnancy Crisis in Mass June 20, 2008

An appalling story from Massachusetts on teen pregnancy. 17 pregnancies over this past school year in girls age 16 and younger. Many of them made a pact to get pregnant so that they can raise them together. Read the report in US news or watch on AP video on Youtube.

Sex education program in the country is seriously being questioned. Is this the failure of kids, parents, school or the government? Finger pointing is on and it has spurred many ideological conversations. But when these kids drop out of school and end up in welfare, no body blames the school or government policy. In their foolishness, they are seriously sabotaging their own future and precious babies.

Sadly, fathers of these babies does not appear anywhere in this discussion. Pregnancy prevention and contraceptive approach are not enough. If we won’t let them drive on roads or do not consider responsible enough for many adult roles, why do we hesitate to speak against sexual activity before marriage. Abstinence is the best message for such crises and let’s not hesitate to tell the truth to the kids

Youth sex education programs works only to delay teen sexual activity according to a new study by Center for Disease Control. See reports in USNWR, Reuters and others. See the abstract of the report in Journal of Adolescent Health.

According to the study teen girls in the nationally representative sample were 59 percent less likely to start having sex before age 15 if they had received sex education, while teen boys were 71 percent less likely. That is impressive. But no way it guarantee sexual abstinent life afterwards, especially in late teen and college years when sexual temptation is the maximum.

But the study does not distinguish between sex education approaches among teens. Abstinence by far has produced more favorable results. Most public schools and liberal curriculums still promote contraceptives, which may not have much success overall, particularly in late teens and college years.

Kids as young as 10 on birth control? December 17, 2007

Few weeks ago, I heard this report on ABC evening news – at a school in Portland (Maine), they are going to distribute birth control pills to middle schoolers? Once again parental rights and sexual morality is colliding head on.

Argument is that kids lives are being ruined by unwanted pregnancies, so why don’t we ask them to protect themselves and why don’t school administration distribute condoms and birth control pills? Children do not need to seek parental consent in taking these pills and in sexual experimentations.

Why is public school becoming a brothel? This only promotes promiscuous behaviors among the middle school kids. School adminstrators are interfereing with parental rights and sexual purity. In matters of personal morality, school system should not overrule home.

With first sexual experience going younger and rising teen pregnancies (report quoted over 17,000 pregnancies of 14 and younger), when should sex education begin? How young should these pills be introduced? Who will provide better sex education to our kids – school, home or church? If school systems to really serious about tackling this issue, why are using broken and unreliable solutions? Does US public school system dare to consider a sure way to handling this issues – abstinence.

More teens turning to sexual abstinence message October 9, 2007

I read with interest a news report about more teens are questioning commonly held views on teen sexual behavior and reverting abstinence as the best way. Check it out for yourself.  The report said, “more and more educators, parents and health professionals are concluding that sexual abstinence until marriage is the wisest, healthiest lifestyle for all teenagers.” What a revelation!

Every idea has a consequence. Many have paid dearly (in some cases with their dear life) for believing in the lies of sexual liberation. This is nothing new. In the past whether it be alcohocol, smoking, drug, adultery etc were promoted on account of personal freedom and rebellion against moral ground of behavioral reinforcements.

Like everything else sexual freedom and safe sex message has come a full circle. Many have fallen victim along the way on this journey. What does it take human being to align themselves to their Creator’s design and live life within the prescribed boundaries. Why are we inclined to push the limits further and further or even desiring to see what happens when moral rules are broken?

Now there enough cases to prove the point the absitence until marriage and faithfulness within marriage is the best way to enjoy sex to the maximum. Whether it poor kids in inner cities of America, red light districts in Mumbai or reversal of AIDS trend in Uganda are all proving what we all have know. Sexual purity matters, not only for ourselves but for the health of the entire communities.
